So what can we do when the power goes out other than complain, get a little edgy, and wonder what to do? Power is the core of our everyday existence. Almost everything we depend upon uses power in some form or fashion. We don't really remember that until we don't have any power.
A really go idea that has been on the market for a couple of years is the Goal Zero Yeti 1250. This portable battery system can help make the dark powerless times a bit brighter. The Yeti 1250 is 1250 watts of rechargeable power that can be used in your home, office, campsite, or where ever. Its portable.
The Yeti 1250 has a couple of 110V plugs so you can plug in conventional electronic devices, lights, etc. It also has a couple of USB ports for your cell phone, tablet, and other USB devices. Goal Zero has a nice variety of LED, low power lights that plug into the Yeti 1250 such as the Lite-a-Life 350 that will brighten up a dark emergency. You can also plug in your refrigerator to the Yeti 1250 and keep it going for around 10-12 hours until the power comes back on.
The Goal Zero Yeti 1250 can be recharge using a conventional wall plug or you can use Goal Zero or a few other brand solar panels to recharge the power pack. The versatility is here with this unit. I was even talking with someone that uses it for backup on on small refrigerator they keep important medications in.
This is a nice piece of equipment but it has its place and limitations. The Yeti 1250 will not run your house and it is not a replacement for a full-blown 15,000 watt generator for your home. It is meant for portability, running some lights, a fridge to keep the food from going bad, and also to charge your cell phone or laptop to help you stay in communicaton with the outside world.
